I've always kind of been neutral with this movie.

I applaud attempting a different take on the story, but I don't find it that great but not bad either.

Yes, it is a good film, not great like Groundhog Day for whatever reasons but a good Christmas movie for those who don't want the oppressively happy Christmas movies. The singing and dancing on tv was a little off-putting at the end.

reply

I agree on the ending. Felt more like am SNL improv rather than a climax

reply

As I said, I do appreciate that they tried a different take on the story. And yes, the ending sucks too.

reply

It's one of the few Bill Murray movies I can stand. Hate the ending, though.

reply

I'm not a huge Bill Murray fan, but I do like Groundhog Day, Lost in Translation, Ghostbusters and Zombieland, which he's barely in. I don't think he's as funny as people say.

reply

I really don't get the love for Ghostbusters. I did a rewatch after many years and the movie is just a mess. Murray is also incredibly annoying.

reply

it is missing key ingredient.

if you read imdb trivia it tell you that bill murray and director did not get along. if you watch film where star and director are not on wavelength, then whole film synergys is off.

in this film it does not hit the right note. it feel off. there is something missing. a modern scrooge was good idea but this film stink!! should be classic but mediocre.

also richard donnar - director, is jewish directing christian fairy tail. that may affect film.

reply

I don't know what happened behind the scenes, but I blame Bill Murray.

reply

Apparently Donner kept wanting Murray to ‘go bigger’ and it makes the film too manic. Murray wanted to tone it down (and probably play something closer to Phil in Groundhog Day - a perfectly calibrated film)

Murray also insisted on the romance, which gives a real heart to the film.

Donner’s great but if the rumours are true then Murray was right on this one.

reply

There's just something about this film that bothers me. It feels too closed in or something. I'm also not a fan of the use of black in it either.

reply

I like this movie. And personally, I like the ending. But to each their own.
