Is david bannon Jesus in the movie.

One quote that really sticks in my head is "I came as the lamb and returned as the lion" . I read in to it as he was first sactrficed as a lamb and has come back to help the possible end. any thoughts?

Yes, in his first "coming" he was the Jesus who was abused by Pilate's guard.
In his second coming, he is like an avenging angel whose work in facilitating The End can only be forestalled by Abbey's purity and self-sacrifice.

what is it with christianity and human sacrifices

reply

Because the body is merely a shell for the soul. It is a temple, but unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

reply

Because in Judaism, they sacrificed a lamb to God yearly which was meant to be temporary only. It was prophesied that the lamb of God, the Messiah will be the ultimate final sacrifice which is why lambs are no longer sacrificed in Christian churches. Worshipping God is about making sacrifices at the altar, in Judaism they are actual lambs, in Catholicism it is Jesus the ultimate perfect one Lamb of God.

I think there is little doubt that he's Jesus. When she stabs him and you see the light come out of the wound. He also as says "I can't die again, I wish I can". What other options can there be?

Before I came to this board I didn't even know there was any doubt David is Jesus. It seems totally obvious to me. He first appears on Earth on December 25. The dog seems to recognize who he is when he greets him. He takes refuge in a synagogue. He is called the Son of God by Cartaphilus who beat him when he was Pontius Pilate's gate keeper. He came as the lamb but returned as the lion. He died once but can never die again. He's breaking the seven seals of the apocalypse. Sounds like Jesus to me.

Even the fact that he takes the name David, the name of his ancestor the great king of Israel, speaks volumes to me. I also like it when he says he's a teacher and says something like "you could say that I've only now come back into town" implying he's been away for a while but has come back. Great writing. Kind of funny even even though it's a serious movie.

Yes, there can be no doubt that David = Jesus. He gives his history as God's special representative, and how he first came to earth as a lamb, but now he's here as a lion to facilitate "the End", and the flashbacks show him suffering Christ's passion when Cartiphilus abuses him. There's just no room for doubt at all.
