I can't really comment on that, but I do have a question about his role in this movie. I always thought he was supposed to be Jesus, but he tells Abby that he's just a messenger. I'm still thinking he is Jesus in the form of Jürgen Prochnow, but if anyone has any other ideas, let me know.
sharePretty clear to me he was playing Jesus. He says "I came as the Lamb (Lamb of God), now I return as the Lion". He tells Abby, "I can't die AGAIN". In Abby's dream/memory of her and the immortal priest, he strikes Prochnow as he was kneeling in front of him. The priest tells the older priest, "I struck a man, only he was no man. He was the son of God".

Not to mention that in the New Testament, Jesus IS "a messenger" - the messenger par excellence, of God's Kingdom, and God's spokesman and agent. The other poster, rjames1973, probably objected to "a messenger" because it seemed to imply that Jesus was not the Son of God but merely one of a series of merely human messengers (?)...

Not one bit - I watch this movie mostly because I think he is hot as a firecracker in this movie.
