Riff's hilarious rap 'music'

As a keyboard player since the early 80's, I laughed out loud at the "music"
dumping out of Riff's boombox. It's obvious they just recorded preset rhythms from an old Casio keyboard. (possibly a CT-405 or CT-701) No melody, no chords, just selected a drum pattern and recorded it. Anyone else notice how cheesy it sounded?

reply

Yeah I noticed that.

I always figured it was a temporary track they were using when they filmed the movie and forgot to replace it with a song in post production.

Low budget movies use this tactic often. Otherwise they would have to shell out big money for a known composition because of copyright law. They probably really did just record that themselves to save money.

It was damn cheesy though, I agree.

reply

lmao yes. the rapping sounded like a bunch of muffled gibberish too.

It makes me think of something I'd use to play on my keyboard when I would get bored.

Sounded like techno to me.

Sounded like RZA!

The very first time he plays it at the beginning of the movie it sounded good, but the rest were so cheap and lame lol
