Why is Smithers in love with Burns?

Burns is a terrible person who mistreats Smithers as well as others, so what's the attraction?

People want what they can't have. Some people like being treated like dirt.

Some people like to be treated bad by big ol baddies

Perhaps he's a postman...

reply

LOL.

reply

I could be a postman. Or a postmaster general. And it is the job of a general to by god get things done!

reply

It's an extension of Smither's sychopancy... It's the next step beyond servile flattery... You see this in the corporate world and in politics a lot...

reply

Because it's funny, that's why.

2 answers. smithers is gay. Smithers is showing symptoms of someone who is susceptible to codependent relationships.

reply

Smithers likes the dominant type.

It’s part of his servile nature.

Anyway, I’m surprised Simpson’s hasn’t been attacked for homophobia because of their relationship.

reply

So do you get it now

reply

I guess so.

reply

Smithers loves burns . Right ?

reply

Yes.

reply

And burns hits him and mistreats him

reply

Yes. What are you getting at?

reply

That Smithers won’t stop being in love with mr burns

reply

I guess, yes.

reply

And Smithers used to have a beautiful wife

reply

Stop trolling.

reply

I’m not. I was actually surprised to learn about that

reply

Oh. When did he have a wife?

reply

When he first started working for mr burns

reply

Wow! The things you learn from this site. I just Googled it, as I'm no Simpsons expert and it said,
'It was revealed in a flashback that he was married to a woman once, but the two split up when Mr. Burns came between them. Smithers is shown to have a passionate and deep love for Mr. Burns, and his sexual orientation has been characterized by the writers of the show as "Burns-sexual".'

reply

You nailed it!

reply

I thank you *takes a bow*

reply

It's Money, Honey. Burns makes $$ faster than my local electrical utility, and Smithers wants a taste of it. It's called Human Nature. Good looking women get it, and rich men get it.
