A lack of real martial artists?

Love this movie. Just got it in HD. Watched it a million times as a kid. Watching it now that I'm 30, i can't help but notice how bad the casting is. I mean Phillip Rhee and Eric Roberts hold their own, but the other 3 are terrible. I mean the late 80s was renowned for making martial arts films and you couldn't throw a rock in Hollywood without hitting an aspiring marital artists trying to make it. I understand that it was set up to make the Koreans look superior, but C'mon, John Dye? Rest his soul. I just don't understand the point.
