Why were Jim and Suzy at Crystal Lake?

I never got it. They had to be on the ship the next morning! Crystal Lake is a lake! They couldn't take that boat to the ship (though Jason did 0_0 lol wut?).
So were they planning to do the impossible by taking the boat out of the lake to the ship? Then what were they gonna do with their boat?
Did Jim's family live at Crystal Lake and were they just gonna drive to the place?
I just don't get it.

I have NO idea And yeah, how Jason took the boat from Crystal Lake to the ship.... loooool.

My only guess would be they wanted to spend their first night after graduation together before going to the ship since, probably, they wouldn't be able to have sex on the boat for fear of the 2 chaperones catching them.

Really though.... it makes about as much sense as the rest of the movie

Just as my wife was asking the same question, I found myself wondering how Jason got electrified through the cable insulation. Once the cable was cut, the water itself would have been more conductive than the cable housing, but shouldn't the water have just shorted out the whole thing? Or am I wrong?

Crystal Lake is a lake!

The movie doesn't deny this. The crazy deckhand said that Jason must have come down the river from Crystal Lake, obviously hidden aboard the drifting yacht of the slain young couple from the beginning. The river (according to the movie) flows into an ocean inlet where the ship was docked and the teens were boarding.

So the teen couple would have no problem making it to the bay where the vessel is docked by the next morning.

But why did the dude bring his girlfriend to Crystal Lake the night before? To set-up his big prank: He informs her of the legends of Jason Voorhees and then scares her with the hockey mask and blade.
