The Ending Killed The Movie

It should of ended the way it was intended to in the original script.

Veronica was no hero in fact she was just as much of a bitch as the Heathers were and quite frankly it was insulting to me that they gave her that hero's ending when in my opinion she didn't deserve it.

I agree. She was a superficial, rather sociopathic killer.
I found it outrageous that she got away with 2 counts of murder, and the film portrays her as a hero?!

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

She didn't commit "murder" since she thought the bullets would just knock the guys out for a while. JD duped her.

It's a tale of redemption. Veronica strayed from the path she knew was right by selling herself out to the popular Heathers. But, by the end, she's learned her lesson.

I wouldn't have wanted to see everyone in the school killed, but it really wouldn't have bothered me at all if Veronica would up dead.

reply

Why? it was the direction that the movie was going in anyway. The only reason the original ending didn't happen was because the director, writers or producers ended up getting cold feet or they were pressured by the higher ups to end it the way they wanted the film to end.

I think I would have liked that.

Be thankful. Another ending they considered was to have the fat girl shoot Veronica in the face and call her heather. No joke

You know what? That ending might of been a small step up from the ending that we actually did get provided that Heather Duke was also killed off as well.

Probably one of the reasons I like that ending at little better then the one we got was because I hated Veronica and I didn't think she deserved to survive after all the horrible things she did. She was just as bad as JD if not worse considering that she just walked away from her "friend" getting date raped by her drunken boyfriend and all.

How do you know that?

reply

It was talked about on the DVD. The studio hated the ending where the school blew up and everyone got along in heaven. They thought it was too morbid.

reply

Gotta love bonus material!

reply

There was an ending they talked about in the commentary on my DVD that I would've loved more than the original intended ending. At the end when Veronica tries to befriend Martha Dumptruck, Martha pulls out a gun and shoots her and says "*beep* you, Heather!" That would've been an AMAZING ending to the film!

How dare you speak to the prince of evil that way, you SLUT?

reply

The people killed were Heather Chandler, who was murdered by J.D. while Veronica thought it was a prank. Same situation with Ram and Kurt. Even in her dream, she tries to save Heather Duke from being killed. She also saves Heather McNamara from committing suicide and is the only one who cares when Martha is injured.

And then she goes out of her way to save the entire school at the end. I'm not understanding why everyone thinks she was such a terrible person.

Why do I think Veronica's a terrible person? Um lets see here are some of my reasons why:

* Sold all of her real friends out to become miss popular along with the Heathers.
* Murdered her "best friend" by serving her liquid drano or whatever it was. (accident I know but still her response afterwards was pretty damn cold and self centred)
* Walked away from Heather McNamara getting dated raped by Ram.
* And murdered Kurt in cold blood.

Yes I do think that Veronica has some good points about her but the bad ones far out ways the good ones in my opinion.

I took it that Veronica ditched her old friends. Not like it was a big blow fight and all or she made fun of or trash talked them, but just walked away and distanced herself from them.

reply

But she brought selling her old friend out up as something she regrets, and she befriended Martha at the end so I'm pretty sure she's going to make amends with Betty as well.

In a way She had faults, but over all likeable. She was disenfranchised by the upper society and found the new boy interesting. People do crazy things for love.

reply

I watched this movie with such long pauses, because it turned out I had a busy day, that I completely forgot what a sociopath she was by the end of the movie, yeah it's not exactly a good ending in any way.

reply

When Veronica asked Martha if she wanted to get together, it is a shame she first said she had no date. It was true but it would have been better for Martha if Veronica considered her #1 not #2.

reply

I prefer the theatrical ending to the original ending. Most people who sympathize with Veronica tend to as well, I think. I think it's also the case that people who prefer the original ending see JD as some sort of protagonist. He wasn't - he was a psychopath, and it felt very natural for the pair JD/Veronica to wind up as opposing forces, which does indeed make her a hero. Also, it's a different thing to say Veronica participated in the deaths, which is accurate, than that she murdered anyone (and frankly, they all had it coming).

The Martha shooting Veronica ending sounded great the first time I heard it, but I don't think it would be as effective. Waters said it was intended to be a final irony, but do events that weren't in her control to begin with coming back to bite her really count as an ironic moment? Provocative, maybe, but no more so than a kid blowing himself up outside the school to light her cigarette (a great touch), and not ironic.

reply

I didn't like the ending either, she got away with it too easily
