How was this a house sequel?

This was called House III overseas. How come? What made this a House sequel?

tHIS WAS CALLED HOUSE 3 OVERSEAS BECAUSE HOUSE 1 & 2 WERE VERY VERY SUCCESSFUL OUTSIDE OF AMERICA AND SO THE DISTRIBUTORS AND PRODUCERS RENAMED THIS HOUSE 3 TO CASH IN ON THAT SUCCESS DUE TO A LUKE WARM RESPONSE TO THIS FILM IN THE US.HOUSE IV HOWEVER WAS NEVER RELEASED HERE IN AUSTRALIA AT LEAST UNTIL LAST YEAR(2004) STRAIGHT TO dvd

Everyone needs to rate this movie completely separate from the House films. House 1 and 2 are among my favorite movies. But when you judge this completely separate from them, it is a pretty fun movie.

Great dialogue with awesome effects!!!

Actually Sean S. Cunningham intended this to be a third House film but MGM wanted it to be a stand alone movie(why?) but over seas they agreed to title it House 3, look it up. It was always intended to be a House 3 by the producer, it even has all the elements of a House film if you pay close attention. It was just different, just like House 2 was different and had nothing to do with House 1. House 2 wasn't a direct sequel either, all the sequels are stand alones except for 4 but even that's debatable. I don't get why everyone thinks this wasn't an official sequel when it intentionally was, it was the stupid studio that decided the name change. Look at ending for example, it's a happy freeze frame ending just like part 1, how is that not connected in some way? The main character starts seeing weird ghostly shit just like part 1, most of the plot revolves around Max haunting their house wanting revenge similar to Big Ben from House 1. It's a real House 3, just a different story like House 2. House 3 isn't any less of a sequel than House 2 was. Just clearing things up!

None of the sequels have anything to do with the first film, so why not?

the House movies are stand alone movies like Halloween III. gotta have something different once in awhile instead of having to see a masked babysitter killer come back every time which would get boring.

Plus House III has the same plot like that other movie Destroyer

I don't think I've seen this one..

I love House (1) but not so much the House II. May have to check this out, as I love Lance and Brion.
