and yet... they decided to make more films...

Agree ... to a point. I believe they used the title because it was the "Last Crusade" of the knights that were sent out to find the Grail.
But, I also agree, that they should have stopped the Indy films as a trilogy, when it went out on top.

Ikr, its similar to Star Trek V released the same summer.

Of course it WAS deemed to be the final IJ but then in the 90s Ford was wanting to do more, Lucas was open to it but SS wasn't too keen, so as a result of SS lack of enthusiasm ,the SW prequels (that GL started working on in about 93), Fords & SS continued movie careers, and Lucas's and SS displeasure at various IJ4 drafts over the years, , it took until 2008 (therefore missing an IJ film we should've gotten in the 90s)

The title makes no sense since they're not even on a crusade, Nor did the crusades have anything EVER to do with the holy grail. Mainly because the grail is a purely literary invention that has no place in religious canon. It makes as much historical sense as Davy Crocket hunting Big Foot during the civil war.
