Most accurate depiction of prison life in a movie I've ever seen

I worked in a penitentiary for 8 years and I've seen many prison movies. This is without question the most accurate depiction of prison life in a movie I've ever seen.

I was an Actor in that movie....

What they did was hire a lot of ex-cons to be extras...The prison was build in the Civil War era....All the cells had no plumbing. Hollywood added sinks and toilets to each cell.

We spent 16 hours a day in that prison....It felt like we were prisoners.

It was dark, damp, and very clostophobic inside....I could wait for the end of the day to get some fresh air!

Maybe I've read too many horror stories about prison violence, rape, racial divides inside prison, etc., but if anything this film struck me as a bit soft compared to what life can be like inside many U.S. prisons.

If prisons were all exactly like how so many movies portray...more like execution camps. I’m not saying horrors don’t happen in prison. Just that they probably happen not all at once hour by hour like how most movies portray.

"in the name of the father" has some amazing prison scenes (the IRA terrorist). "American me" is good too, brutal. And not to forget Shawshank...

How does it compare with American History X (1998) or Animal Factory (2000) ?

Had he accepted the 6 months deal and went to the more open facility which the lawyer suggested, would the situation inside be any diferent for him?
