In the late 80s, TV was more regulated than movies. For 2010s, the opposite is true. Some of it has to do with the watching trends of younger generations. A lot of it has to do with the expansion of the film industry to wider, broader audiences, double standards of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) not withstanding. Also, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC, U.S.) has relaxed many policies, including ridding of restrictions against maximum advertising.
