How the #&$@ could Riggs leave his dog behind?

The dog saved his life but Riggs drives off without him? That left a bad taste in my mouth.

He's being shot at. It's the fight or flight instinct. The dog survived and he stopped the truck for him.

The dog survived but they ended up killing him later on, after they kidnap Riggs. He mentions it when he's on the phone with Roger. "They killed her, they killed him, they killed them both."

Death is the standard breach for a complex prize.

No, Sam the dog lived. We see him when Riggs is carrying Rika's body on the beach.

He's referring to his late wife, Victoria Lynn. They killed them both: both Victoria and Rika. The dog lived.

They were trying to kill Riggs, they weren't interested in the dog. Taking needless risks for the dog would be pointless.
