If only Riggs had died...

as originally scripted,we'd have been spared the execrable sequels.

Thought I was havin' trouble with my adding. It's all right now

Disagree, LW3 is my favourite

by far

Dangerous.

That would have been better. LW3 is lame.

reply

LW3 sucked, but LW4 was back on track again IMO.

Yeah they really pussified Riggs for those two horrendous sequels, his death in a fury rage with South African blood on his hands might have actually worked. First they give him a lousy love interest, then they cut the beautiful mullet! Absolutely insanity.

reply

LW3 gets to much flack. It kicks ass imo.

reply

That's total insanity, I like all four films. As for the chopping off Riggs' mullet, somewhere between LW3 and LW4, they chopped off Riggs' mullet. In LW3, Riggs still had his mullet.

I for one, don't believe Mel Gibson likes wearing his hear in such way, he only grew his hair like that because of his Riggs character that he was gonna potray. Shane Black invented the LW characters, and his idea of Sgt Martin Riggs, was an on the edge cop strung out on drugs, is a raging alcoholic, is very brutal, has expert marksman skills, and is extensively trained in martial arts. Mel Gibson grew his hair in such fashion because he wanted to look appropriate for the Riggs character.

Think about it, in what other film(with the notable exception of Bird on a wire)did we ever see Gibson with that hair style?

reply

NOOOO, then we never would have seen LW4, with joe pesci and chris rock trading insults and wisecracks at each other the whole way through, still makes me LOL even after all these years... :P

LW3 was meh, easily the worst. But LW4 was pretty decent.

reply

Lethal Weapon 3 was ok, but Lethal Weapon 4 was definitely a major improvement.

I could do without 3. I find it a chore to sit through nowadays.

Too preachy, too tame, lame villain, weak climax, and Riggs isn't badass enough. He doesn't kill anyone until the third act of the movie. How can the Lethal Weapon not kill any bad guys for most of the movie?

But 4 despite it's flaws (mainly Chris Rock) is underrated.

Great action scenes, mainly the opening scene, freeway chase and climatic fight with a decent villain in Jet Li. And more importantly the violence is just as brutal at times (sometimes even more) than the first two movies.

Let's face it. It was the force-fed comedy of Leo that made the sequels get worse and worse, topped off with the excruciating comedy of Chris Rock. They really took away from our heroes.

Personally, I think it would've made this movie really great if Roger came into the living room of the house on stilts and found Leo strangled to death like DeVito in LA Confidential. Then, Roger would have great motivation to become a lethal weapon.
