I still think...

As much as I love Joe Pesci in these movies, I still think it would've been much more dramatically perfect for the film if those guys killed him in the end. Murtaugh would've had much more personal reasons to turn into a lethal weapon and it would've validated Leo Getts as a great character.

Them killing his GF AND his wife wasn't motivation enough?

reply

What? Murtaugh, NOT Riggs. Murtaugh barely had any screen time to grieve for the deaths of his comrades. BUT, he would have time to think about Leo's death... and since the audience has spent more time with Leo, it would've been effective.

My bad, thought you meant Riggs. Agreed then about that would have given more motivation for Murtaugh...

Imagine a version of Lethal Weapon 2 where Leo and Riggs died.

Funny having watched Lethal Weapon 2 recently, they really make it vague whether Riggs survived or not. The only reason we even know is because of Lethal Weapon 3.
