Was Rika killed because she happened to be with Riggs when they went after him or was it more of a personal vendetta by Arjen Rudd (her boss; Joss Ackland's character) after she spurned his 'advances' toward her? Thanx for any & all replies, thoughts & opinions!!

I wouldn't put it past Rudd and his cronies to kill Rika just because she was with Riggs, but if that was the main reason, I think Vorstedt would have rubbed her death in Riggs' face like he did with Riggs' wife. If things had went down the way the drug lords intended, Riggs would have died without even knowing that Rika had been murdered. It seems more likely to me that Rudd just added her to his **** list for giving him the cold shoulder.

Not really. They throw him in the water exactly where they threw her, he DID see her down there and she was wrapped in his jacket--it was placed over whatever stuff was strapped to her in order to weigh her down and kill her, not underneath which would have made more sense or just not placing it there at all. It was a message, they wanted him to see that she had died as well.
So, I think it was that she spurned the dude's advances and then went and banged Riggs who had already pissed him off, to say the least.

Except that he was a sly snake as well as vindictive, & he would've wanted to send a message to Riggs as well, not just kill her, but kill her in a way & at a time which would inflict the most pain.
