Curious to know that Mel Gibson was considered for Batman

Would this sequel still have been made as a summer 1989 flick? Or would it have had to be postponed if Mel took up the cape? I know that Nic Cage had two summer blockbusters in the same year (Con Air and Face/Off in 1997) so it MIGHT be possible in terms of shooting schedules...

I think Batman was shot before Lethal Weapon 2 because of the special effects. Batman was shot in England and LW2 locally so I think that also contributes to the film being shot closer to the release date so technically I think Mel could have done both.
