The bad guys in this movie = Dr. Evil

Okay, I love the movie, loved it as a kid, and love it as an adult. But I really have to turn off my brain when I watch it. I mean c'mon; they exterminate the rest of the police force using explosives--quick, easy, does the job. But when it comes to Riggs and Murtaugh? Let's see--for Murtaugh (the first time), we'll plant a bomb but for some inexplicable reason give him a warning, thus giving him a chance to escape, and for the second time, we'll send a guy with a knife. For Riggs (the first time), we'll send some helicopters that he can hear coming a mile away, then shoot up his trailer for five minutes, giving him every opportunity to escape. Then with Riggs, the second time, rather than just shoot him, no let's tie him up, throw him in the ocean, and just walk away and assume everything went according to plan. Then the third time, when they're in the cargo container, rather than just walk in and shoot them, let's lock them in there, once again giving them a chance to escape.

I felt like Scott from Austin Powers: "I have a gun, in my room, you give me five seconds, I'll get it, I'll come back down here, BOOM, I'll blow their brains out!"

Yeah, it's a pretty blatant use of the old "smart villains suddenly turn stupid because the movie would be over if they didn't" rule that's saved James Bond's ass in every 007 movie.

For me, when they locked Riggs and Murtaugh in the storage container with ALL of their money, the villains in LW2 lost any credibility they might have had earlier.

To be fair, there's no way they could have known about Riggs' shoulder dislocating trick although putting a straightjacket on him and throwing him in the ocean does seem needlessly complicated when presumably they could have just shot him.

Actually, the bad guys didn't even know that Riggs and Murtaugh were in the storage container. I do agree about the other points. Still love the movie though.

Sure they did! After they're locked in, Arjen says, "The next time they see the sun, it'll be in Capetown." Which is weird, because you'd expect him to say something like, "Oh crud, we just locked two cops who are out for our blood in there with a full tank of gas and a billion dollars of our drug money. This might not have been a good idea."
