Ariel was sure desperate for a guy! Lol

She decides to trust a woman who is known for being a sea witch and knows this.

She trades her voice and signs a risky contract that can possibly ruin her life since it indicated that Ariel belonged to her.

She's is willing to go mute for the rest of her life and put the entire kingdom in danger just to get close to a cute guy she hardly knows.

reply

Except that she always had the dream of wanting to be human and live on land. Eric was just a catalyst.

reply

No, she's tempted to seek out Ursula only during a time of duress, with additional coaxing from Flotsam and Jetsam. She's also an emotional teenager so you can't fault her too much for not thinking clearly during a stressful situation. Lastly, she didn't do all this for a man she didn't know. Eric was merely the final push in the direction of fulfilling her long held dream of being a part of the human world. Now despite your misguided post, I've been quite merciful. There are posters around here that may not be as forgiving. 

What you said 100%!

Once upon a time there was a magical place where it never rained. The end.

reply

she already longed to become human before she met eric. She is fascinated by the human world and wants to be part of it. And she has no idea about Ursula's plans for the kingdom.

reply

Agreed 100%, though I'll expand the bit on Ursula to mention that she also thought Ursula reformed (considering Ursula sang that musical number, Poor Unfortunate Souls, which implied she did).

reply

She's not desperate for a guy, she's desperate for THE guy. (big difference, especially at 16.)

True

In My girl Ariel's defense,
1) she was obsessed with life beyond the sea. I equate that to my life as a young girl that dreamed of leaving my life in a small town and wanting to explore a big city. She was s girl of big dreams.

2) she was 16 and rebelled bc her father was nuts. He destroyed her whole room of collections. What an *beep*

reply

Wouldn't you if you felt true love for a guy if you were a female?

reply

She was in love and who could blame her? :)

Yeah, and besides, Ariel always wanted to interact with humanity anyways. All Eric did was give her the necessary nudge to pursue her dreams.

reply

She wasn't desperate for A guy. She wanted that guy.
