Can a grown man get enjoyment from this?

I've never seen this, as a kid I only watched the Disney films for boys and both genders, I never bothered with their princess stuff except for Snow White which is awesome of course.

Can a 30 year old man like this, with no nostalgia propping it up?

I'm debating checking it out but I reckon the ship has sailed for me possibly liking it.

reply

Yes, grown men can enjoy it.

Have you seen the new one?

If so which of them do you prefer?

reply

I’ve seen the new one and enjoyed it, but the original is better.

I don't like ANY of the Disney hand-drawn animated so-called "classics", they just irk me. I hate the art style, the movement style, the elasticity of the characters, those damned songs, the comedy sidekicks, just NONE of it.

On the other hand, I love old Pixar stuff, and few of the Disney CGI movies like Wreck-It Ralph and Big Hero 6.

But not the hand-drawn stuff. Ugh, just... no. I'd rather see Studio Ghibli than watch any of that rubbish.

They are loads of grown men getting "enjoyment" from this - You only have to look at the live action remake board to see how all excited they are getting about the little mermaid...

reply

Just watch it if you're curious. If you're afraid of being judged you don't have to tell "the guys", and you can always turn it off!

Personally it's never been a fave, probably since when it came out, I was old enough to spend the whole movie realizing that Ariel was being an idiot.

reply

I saw it when it first came out bin my mid twenties. I enjoyed it.

Saw many years later in rerelease with my daughter and still liked it

reply

Coincidence that it happened today.
Overheard my boss talking about how much he preferred this version to the remake he just took his granddaughters to see over the weekend.

reply

Absolutely! It's one of Disney's best. Maybe the best 😊
