Tombo is the worst part of the film

Somehow the first few times I watched the movie, I didn't see the whole thing. Because of this, I got the idea that the film was more about Kiki being independent and making new friends.

After watching the whole movie, I was disappointed to see that Tombo plays such a big role by making Kiki grow up. Tombo is just annoying and there's no reason for him and Kiki to like each other. This also causes Gigi to never speak again in the Japanese version (though thankfully he does in the original English dub).

After reading the book, it seems that the romantic plot was made up for the movie, as well as the issues with Gigi. It's sad that Ghibli felt the need to add in a cliche romance plot and a dramatic almost death when the movie could have just shown the ups and downs of Kiki settling into her new home and the places her delivery service takes her. No wonder the author hated the film.

Second prize for most annoying goes to Ursula for not caring that Kiki was in a hurry and then making her scrub the floors for seemingly hours in exchange for her own property back and a few easy stitches. At least she redeems herself by cheering up Kiki and letting her stay at her cabin, even if it is only so she can draw Kiki.
