scariest part

holy geeeezuz......... remember the part where the girl is dreaming and her dad is there smiling... and all of a sudden he just LUNGES at her and she wakes up.... my god i about had a heart attack...

the other scariest part (one that didnt make you jump) was in her final dream when she can see her dads silhouette on top of the hill and the sky is all dark and scary... very good atmosphere! horrifying but great.

"Anna...I'M BLIND!", jeez, that was scary!

reply

oh my god yeah, that dream she has in the bathtub where shes taking a photo of a happy smiley dad on holiday who suddenly turns evil properly made me jump out my seat when i first saw it at the age of 11...

Last year, I watched it again at the age of 23 and was STILL worried leading up to that scene! and i still jumped even though i knew it was coming! aaaargh. great film though, especially the scenes in the house, very atmospheric and creepy!

Why is he blind?

reply

It could be a reference to Saul in the Bible maybe when the scales fell from his eyes.

reply

I believe he is blind because Anna drew him into the picture, then she said, "he looks like a madman", and she scribbled through his face - mainly his eyes. That's why he's blind in the dream.

reply

Got to agree there, both those parts terrified me when I first saw it, and I'll be honest, still do. The "Anna I'm blind" part haunts me to this day D:

I just can't stand that scene when he hit her in her chest. I remember watching this movie with my folks, and I remember my dad said something like 'Oh my god...' Plus the music there was tragic...

The Passion Of Lovers Is For Death

reply

the movie had a very good way of portraying a dream/nightmare on screen. I think thats what made it so disturbing.

reply

The bath, I'M BLIND, when he's hitting her...
plus when the legs she drew for Marc exploded. That creeped me.

reply

Happy Smiley Dad suddenly looming right at the camera was definitley scary as hell.

reply

Definitely the whole Blind Dad thing. That has scarred me for life.

reply

Yep, gotta agree with the scene when she's in the bathtub. It really scared the crap out of me! One of the most heart-pounding scenes I've ever seen. The irony is the film is not really what one would describe as a 'horror' either but a kind of fantasy-thriller. For me, this film was far scarier than these so-called "scariest movies of all time" like 'Ring' or 'The Exorcist'

reply

And he was blind?

Another metaphor.

reply

I watched this film so long ago, I can't even remember how old I was but think it must've been pretty young. God knows why I was watching this! The only bit I can remember is when the Dad is far away one second then right up in the camera the next. Definitely most scary!

The Truth Is A Virus

reply

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the part where she is being chased in that house, and it's all dark except for those candles and the crazy possessed radio. That freaking static-demonic voice coming from the radio scared the crap out of me. I can't think about it when I turn out the lights to this day.

reply

"Anna! I'm blind!" = me, crapping my pants!

Definitely those two scenes for me too. This film really gave the dreams an effective nightmarish quality.
