This is a professionally made Hollywood film and they don't even have proofreaders? Stupid idots...

The reason it is spelled that way is that the Pet Cemetery (and you misspelled it as well, by the way) was set up by kids and when they made the homemade sign they misspelled it. It fits perfectly into the whole concept of the film.
