And I Thought I Was the Only One...

The subject of Sam Elliott came up at another board and when it did, I thought of this movie. I was surprised to see so many discussions about it! Seriously, I thought I was the only one who pulled this off my DVD shelf to watch each year.

The Favorite Scene thread brought back many scenes that I love as well - too many to list. Outside of the movie's initial release, I haven't heard much about it. It definitely had some great actors!

One of my favorite Christmas movies. Sam Elliot gives a performance that is both harsh and loving. Rebecca Harrell is terrific, too. Like you, I brush the dust of the DVD and play it every Christmas. A classic!

Interseting to hear you say that. "Best Chrismtas Movie Ever". . .? That's a pretty big statement. I personally think that there are much better candidates for that title, including: the '51, '84, and '99 versions of A Christmas Carol, Miracle on 34th Street, It's a Wonderful Life, and A Christmas Story.

Truthfully, there really aren't that many great Christmas movies. A small handful at best.

I remember going to see this film in the theater as a child and LOVED it . . . however, when I went back to watch it again recently I thought that it just hadn't aged well. I was a child when I first saw it, and an adult when I rewatched it and it just wasn't able to hold my attention.

I saw the final 1/2 hour or so of it last year while channel-surfing at work. I thought it was really sad but very good, and the actress playing the little girl was perfect in the part, so cute. I watched it this year from the start and it gave me a lump in my throat, seeing that poor kid get disappointed so often, and treated badly by her dad & others. A terrific movie, but sad. I just bought it on DVD as a Xmas gift for my friend's 10-yo daughter. I'll probably try to catch it on TV every year.

This is one of my favourite Christmas movies too! It's a three-way tie between Prancer, A Christmas Story, and A Muppet Christmas Carol.

Every year my mom and I watch Prancer together on Christmas eve... it's kind of like our little tradition :o) She loves it just as much as I do... if not more!

It's funny how one little movie can span generations like that... I mean, I'm almost 30 and I love it just as much now as I did when I was a kid, and my mom loves it just as much as I do and she's in her 60's... it just goes to show you how beautiful and timeless the story is.

I've always thought it was a lost classic Christmas movie too. I saw it in the movie theaters when it came out & loved it right away.

He is a great actor and a great man. I've had the honor of speaking to him a few times. He is such a gentleman. That is the best way I can describe him in person. He is a great actor too.

Even though he is a lot older than me I can see why woman go crazy for him. It is mainly though I think just the heart of him that comes out when he speaks. It's hard to explain but he is just so alive and his words are so powerful. He can say even the simplest thing and you tell it is from his heart.
