Question to star wars and star trek fans

The Phantom Menace or star trek episode 5 which is worse

reply

The Phantom Menace. I was expecting a great movie with TFF. I was expecting the greatest movie ever with TPM.

"Oh no...they sent the wrong Spock!"

reply

STV. The phantom menace has some good parts, darth maul.

reply

Phantom Menace has no good parts. Darth Maul... he says about 2 words in the movie and has a pointless fight with 2 guys he doesn't know so fanboys can fawn over flashing lightsabers.

reply

Agreed. As with the movie, Darth Maul has to be the most disappointing Star Wars character ever...except maybe for finding out where Boba Fett came from.

You suck, Lucas!

"Live long and suck it, Zachary Quinto!"

The Phantom Menace was aimed at young children. It was a children's movie, but die hard SW fans didn't get it.

ST5, on the other hand, was legitimately bad.

reply

My little brother was 7 years old when we saw the Phantom Menace and he didn't really like it, but did like the original trilogy. So if it was "aimed at young children" it missed the mark, at least in my brother's case.

If you want to see a Sci-Fi film done well for children (and adults) look no further than Wall-E.

To actually answer the original poster, ST5 is better but I wouldn't want to watch either of them (ST5 or TPM) again.

reply

It took me a couple of viewings to realize that Wall-E was the best Pixar movie ever made.

STAR TREK 5 is worse, though I do think it's an underrated film.

I love STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE. Maybe it's just nostalgia talking, but I do think it's better than most fans are willing to admit. I was even cool with Jar Jar Binks growing up, however looking back now as an adult he's actually more of a distraction than he is annoying. Anyone know what I mean? Like they can keep the character, but drop a lot of the comic relief. I watched it this passed year and some of the scenes, like when he accidently numbs his head tends to interrupt the flow of the movie. That's sort of thing.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually think Star Trek V is worse that The Phantom Menace.

reply

Star Trek V is obviously worse.

reply

Yep, Star Trek V is lamentable, I actually felt uncomfortable watching it, I just wanted it to end so much.
Phantom Menace is pretty bad, but in more of a 'Meh' kind of way - disappointing, not squirmingly bad.

reply

I'll take any Star Trek movie (TOS, TNG or even the new ones) over the Star Wars prequels. They got a little better with each one, but that's not saying much considering where it started off at. Having said that, I don't like any Star Trek movie as much as I do The Empire Strikes Back. It's my favorite movie ever. Wrath Of Khan would be somewhere in the top 5, somewhere after ESB and John Carpenter's The Thing.

reply

Star Trek V is more embarrassing and cringe making but Phantom Menace and any SW prequel are such catastrophic failures as films that it/they are clearly worse.
