The role of Sybok was originally offered to...


...Sean Connery but he was booked with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Hunt for Red October. I bring this up because it explains the origin of the name for the Eden planet: “Sha Ka Ree” is merely a butcherized rendition of Sean Connery.

Oliver Reed would have been interesting, too. On a side note, I just finished watching this and it struck me that David Warner was a bit wasted in this film. He was better used in The Undiscovered Country, even though that was also a brief role.

Im surprised Warner wasnt offered the role of Sybok. He'd already been the main villain in Meyers Time After Time
