True he did need nuclear energy to survive but that does NOT give him the right to cause nuclear meltdowns which would cause catastrophic loss of life, or to try and turn the Earth into a radioactive wasteland. Especially when he showed zero remorse for his actions.
So no, I do not consider him sympathetic at all.
