I saw this because of Dave Cov.
Also Jeff Beck really rules.
I thought he was a hard-to-understand musician.
Yeah Rod Stewart era was easy and enjoyable
but not instrumental albums.

And too late but I heard the news for the first time that...

Alison Doody,
Sarah Jessica Parker,
Molly Ringwald,
Meg Ryan,
Kelly McGillis,
Brooke Shields,
Michelle Pfeiffer,
Sharon Stone,
Kim Basinger,
Jodie Foster
and Ally Sheedy
all turned down the role of Claire Lewicki.

well sorry for rushing around belatedly.

I don't know about Doody and Sheedy.
Kelly costared in Top Gun already.
Meg... she could've done a better role than protagonist's friend's wife.
Brooke... too tall for Tom. she's a giant.
Kim... lil' bit old.

that's a really long list.

I think Michelle Pfieffer would have been the best out of all of the ones listed.

There isn't a single actress on that list that would be believable in that role. It needs a Marg Helgenberer (sp?) or Kathy Bates, or better yet, Meryl Streep.
