Watched for the first time in years--were they in coal mines?

What is with the blackened faces? I know Hollywood sometimes takes license with things to make them more dramatic, but seriously, every driver exited his car (also looking like it just wrecked into a truck loaded with used motor oil) with his face looking as if it had been rubbed in charcoal.

I could shoot other holes in the movie, like Rowdy's sunglasses on the steamy lake, and the fashions of the day, but that's common with any movie over time.

But the blackened faces, and cars, is a bit much.

What's the deal with Rowdy's sunglasses at the lake? I saw the movie in the past few months and didn't see anything wrong with it. Oh I agree that the cool factor was amped up just to make everything look spiffy, heroic, and sleek. But that's your usual Jerry Bruckheimer production.

They're more along the lines of Elton John or Sally Jesse Raphael.

Maybe abit OTT within DOT, but if you watch any races from the 70s & 80s, the drivers did come out covered & dirty.
