First of all - I am a bit of a movie score connoisseur. And I usually don't refer to the classics that I consider "themes" such as "Theme from Star Wars", "Jaws Theme", "Theme from Superman" or "Theme from Jurassic Park". All of which coincidentally are done by John Williams.... I am referring to the movies like Armageddon, Transformers, The Rock, Days of Thunder, Backdraft, etc....

I have the bootleg of the "Days of Thunder" score. Two of them actually. And - sad to say, the piece of music where Cole breaks thru the second crash and says "I'm outta here" does NOT exist. It's strange because all of the other epic pieces of music are there like the End Credits, the Beginning Credits, the Car Building scene - but that ONE piece does not exist at all. If it does, I would love someone to find me that as well. Now - the piece that you're referring to is there in another track but not in the same context. For the life of me I don't know why it doesn't exist.

Now - the Top Gun piece that you are referring to is actually just a version of the End Credits song by Cheap Trick called "Mighty Wings". I think that Harold Faltermeyer is actually playing the piece of music but it is indeed instrumental and if you hear that Cheap Trick song (it's on the Soundtrack CD) you can hear the underlying theme...

Hope that helps.
