Who do you hate more: Buzz or Uncle Frank?

Uncle Frank is a greedy a-hole, but even as a kid I just remember despising Buzz and his disgusting pig face. I mean come on, he ate the only cheese pizza on purpose! I also recall really not liking how much he aged between this and the 2nd movie whereas everyone else looked relatively the same, you're ruining everything Buzz!

reply

Uncle Frank. He treated Kevin worse than anyone else. He was cheap and selfish. Buzz was a jerk but at least he showed he cared about Kevin.

Meet me at the waterfront after the social.

reply

Definitely Uncle Frank. Sure, Buzz was a jerk, but he is a teenage boy, after all. It's fairly typical for adolescent males to be obnoxious and mean to their younger siblings, they tend to outgrow it eventually. So Buzz's behavior might be somewhat expected, but Frank had no such excuse, he was just that a**hole relative that most families have and no one likes.

reply

they're both awful, but kevin's mother is the worst, She's the one who should be sticking up for. Kevin, not being horrible to him.

reply

I agree! Kevin is the brunt of everybody's jokes and cruelty. Even Fuller is a jerk towards Kevin. Uncle Frank was a greedy cheapskate idiot but Buzz needed a good beating. Buzz picks on Kevin on stage in front of the whole family and when Kevin gets sick of it and fights back then Kevin is the evil one and Buzz is innocent even though he blatantly lies and acts superior. Buzz is just like Kevin Arnold's brother Wayne in The Wonder Years and both of them deserve a beating.

reply

You take it too seriously Buzz is a typical older brother who has shown that he does care for Kevin but Frank is a grown ass man who should know better.

reply

Buzz, although an *beep* can be entertaining, so Frank.

The universe isn’t evil, John, it’s just indifferent.

reply

Frank is also a thief like Harry and Marv. He has his wife steal the crystal silverware on the airplane.

Frank for all the reasons above.

reply

I would day both frank and buzz.

Easily Uncle Frank, I thought he was a good for nothing freeloader, the way he tells the pizza boy that it's his brother's house and he'll take care of him shows what a cheapskate and a total jerk that he really is, I also thought he was a jerk towards Kate when he tries to make her feel better by forgetting his reading glasses.

To be fair he said he didn't have anything but traveler's checks. A lot of restaurants don't accept checks. I've asked when I've had pizza delivered if the pizza guy could accept a check and they said no. Plus there's not really a good way of tipping with checks.

Firstly I love some of Frank's lines, they are funny.
However he's a selfish and obnoxious and would be unlikeable in real life - however for the most part and perhaps unforgivably he's mostly mean to Kevin alone.

Buzz is a 13 year old and he does care deep down for his brother as such his behaviour can be excused in that sense

reply

Uncle Frank - his behavior towards Kevin as a visitor in his home was ridiculous. He is a cheapskate and always making horrible remarks to someone that isn't his child.

Buzz was just an immature teenager picking on his youngest brother. I don't support his behavior, but its a common thing amongst brothers.

I don't like either ones behavior, but Uncle Frank was way worse.

reply

THIS💯💯! I dislike them both.
They both show how messed up the McCallister family is.

reply

Decent people don't call their 8 year old nephew a jerk. Buzz is a typical big brother, but Uncle Frank's behavior is unforgivable.

reply

Absolutely agree

Close to tie

Buzz was a jerk to Kevin hating him using foul language making up murderous stories of old man Marley which leads to toothbrush steal eats Kevin's pizza in 5 minutes and then has the nerve to ask Kevin to get a plate and doesn't even care about his situation although the A2D 3 reasons were funny. In 2nd film he embarrasses Kevin in front of whole school.

Uncle Frank is selfish and rude. After having him fix up VCR he tells him to get lost. He pulls his pants down (although only in novel and deleted scene). Takes pizzas and says brother will pay (although that might be considered nice to get the load off the pizza boy's hands). Calls Kevin little jerk. Negative attitude towards missing plane (although that's minute). When asked for champagne panic checks that it is FREE. Has Leslie steal Crystal something from plane and then a second later embellishing tells the flight attendant to fill his glass all the way up with champagne. Tries to say he forgot his reading glasses (originally I thought they were in Aunt Leslie's purse from the fill it up scene). Gives shrimp to kids despite being told that they are for later. In 2nd film says that Kevin better not ruin his trip which Peter is paying good money for. Thinks it was the funniest thing that Kevin was embarrassed. Sleeps through choir. When arriving at expensive hotel and/or airport has Peter tip the van drivers because the smallest thing he has is a $20.

Aunt Leslie bonus - unwrap presents nicely so we can reuse wrapping paper.

I'd have to say Buzz for Part 1 and Frank for Part 2.

If buzz hadn't made up the Marley stuff Kevin wouldn't have stolen the toothbrush; then again the events might have never led to Markey reuniting with his family. In part 2 I think unintentionally he did the prank just so Kevin could flip out again because he and I think many other people did not want to go to Florida.

But Frank was kinda a funny cheapskate in Part 1. But in part 2 he was really bad. Sleeping through choir, thinking Buzz's prank was funny, and not wanting to tip van drivers where they are getting free ultra fancy room in ultra fancy hotel.

Frank is *EASILY* the bigger jerk! The thievery he pulls off over both movies is on par w/ the 'Bandits' themselves on top of his cheapskate attitude. On the other hand pretty much EVERYTHING that Buzz does is well within the range of normal 'dickish' older brother/cousin activity (I know their brothers BUT my cousin would do this same $#!+ to me & I in turn did it to my brothers...)

the only real difference is that BOTH Frank & Buzz's actions are compressed in time to heighten the emotional impact on the narrative.

I fell asleep during INCEPTION BUT I FEEL like I still saw it!

reply

Uncle Frank, for all the reasons above posters have already said.

reply

UNCLE FRANK doesn't seem to be aware of how much of a jerk he is. BUZZ does. Even though the scene where he explains why he's not worried about KEVIN is funny, it exposes him as completely soulless.
