Fun fact about Buzz's "girlfriend"

People have always laughed their asses off with that scene, where Kevin is going through his brother's private stuff, and he finds a photo of a fat, ugly girl with a crazy, bug-eyed smile, and he says, "Buzz, your girlfriend--woof!"

That was actually one of the director's sons dressed up as a girl for the photo, because he couldn't bear for anyone to say that about a real girl on camera.

reply

I already knew that but thanks anyway.

These days they could just make an Ai girlfriend. Actually it might have been funnier if they had shown someone beautiful and still had Kevin say that.

reply

Well we didn't have that in 1989 when this was being filmed, or even in 1990, when it was released.

reply

That shows the film-makers had their hearts in the right place and weren't mean spirited.

Compare that to the guys behind stuff like Family Guy and South Park who are always poking fun at disabled people etc

reply

South Park crosses so many lines it's amazing what lines they haven't crossed in this day and age. However, it's very telling when some of their episodes get banned from mainstream tv, and if you want to see them, you gotta go somewhere on the web that's out of the way to watch the banned episodes.

reply

I don't have a problem with what they do on those shows. It's just the hypocrisy. It's always funny when you're making fun of someone else's affliction but if they had disabilities or whatever they probably wouldn't do it.

reply

Guess what one of their episodes was banned for? Portraying Muhammad. Evidently there were enough death threats to Matt and Trey Parker, as well as any TV stations or streaming services made to keep the 2-part episode where we finally learn who Cartman's dad is, off the airwaves.
