Why is is that when she is out fishing with Joe she thinks in her mind she wants him to "throw her down and make another Joe Jr.", but later when Kennedy dies and they kiss, she thinks she's pregnant, and later at the doctor's office didn't even know about sex? How did she know earlier about making Joe Jr.'s yet later not know about sex?

Still doesn't make sense to me, though, because, "throwing someone down and making a Joe Jr." implies that she knows babies come from lying down and doing something. IMO.
If later she thinks kisses can make you pregnant, wouldn't it follow that before she'd have said she wished he would kiss her and make a Joey Jr.?
Maybe the religion, immaculate conception thing makes more sense. However, it still doesn't explain how she wouldn't have at least *known* about sex. (not to mention her face when she reads the pamphlet on sex in the doctor's office, her completely disgusted face implies she knew absolutely nothing about it).
I also don't understand how she can go from completely disgusted by the idea of sex, to having it, up in the tower with Joe in such a short span of time, but maybe that's a whole other can of worms.

i took it as she knew how sex makes a baby (because of the joe jr part) but she thought she was pregnant because it was a punishment, not just because the kiss was of a sexual nature.

Hmm yeah I think you're right. I just said in another thread she probably didn't know about sex but I forgot about the Joe Jr. line. Your explanation makes sense, that's why she was into the immaculate conception thing. Though in that case, she probably wouldn't have believed the doctor! And when she said to the doctor her Mum talked to her about sex she was clearly lying, and the mother said after sex "I guess it's too late for our birds and bees talk now". So really I'm not sure now.
I was just watching this today actually, there's a scene where she's reading a book on Saints and their punishments and that's when she has the hallucination of her virgin Mary figure being pregnant and assumes that her punishment for her sinful behavior is that she herself is pregnant. As far as education goes, she seems to have an idea of how babies are conceived but not completely. The thing is though, that she was pretty obsessed with Catholicism, most people are driven by their beliefs more so than common sense and she had a very strong belief in the idea that she was being punished.
