Joe-I don't understand him!

Okay, I'm sorry, but I don't really understand why Joe gets into the relationship (if you can call it that) with Charlotte and everything, if he's obviously so much older than she is. I just sort of had trouble with that and what does everyone else think?

Well, not being a guy, I may be taking liberties, but here's the thing -- when a cute girl who's hot for sex comes on to a guy -- they often give in, or lose control, or figure "whatever".

Its probably because the movie was set in the 60s and age didnt really matter as much back then

~The problem with hollywood is they shoot too many movies and not enough actors~

I don't understand him either. Not because he got involved with her....because most men are gonna take it if its thrown at them, and he had to be very sexually repressed working at a convent and all. The thing that I don't understand is some of his behavior. Like the way he drove off after Cher kissed him and Winona's character confronted them. Its like he drove off withour explanation or anything like he didnt want to be bothered, but then the next day he passionately screws her in the bell tower. He really confused me there.

yeah, (personal experiance) guys are pigs with one thing on their mind!!they cant help but want to jump a girls bones even if she is under age.

reply

Yes, because you made a bad choice that gives you the right to brand all men as pigs. There's a word, also from the animal kingdom, that describes you to a T.

This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here.

Well, sometimes, the age doesnt matter, if you're in love! Okay, I admit, that was corny.

I didn't understand why he deflowers the girl, then runs off to open a nursery - wtf?! He seemed like a decent guy, but I didn't like the way he just disappeared all of a sudden.

I think he pretty much had to leave town. He worked for a convent and was caught "deflowering" an underage girl in a small town circa 1964. He definitely lost his job and might not have gotten hired anywhere else, plus he was town gossip. He had to move on and it was probably the push he needed to leave town.
