Underestimated Movie

I think that Mermaids is one of the best films I'd ever seen of Winona Ryder, and I saw so much stuff of this woman.

Mermaids is a underestimated movie. I see it all the time, Winona make a superb role.

Don't you mean underrated?

~ I hate the fact that this movie is underrated. This is a great flick.

Me too! I belive that everyone should watch this movie (okay so maybe not the male gender) But still. This is one of my fav. movies

Male gender too. Three cute, charming, warm, wonderful girls. What's not to like. It's also one of those movies you enjoy without really knowing why. It plods along seemingly without direction and then comes together as if it were on course all along. Ends a little abruptly. As if the writer wished to avoid a trite Hollywood ending.

Do you know that guy?
No. But he's a dick.

i just saw it and i thought it was very well done, even though i dispise Cher!

reply

Yes it's a pretty good movie. I was surprised by Cher's acting, she was very good I have to admit it.
And what about Winona Ryder? She's WONDERFUL in this movie. She's a great actress, she's incredibly beautiful, sexy and tender, and has a lot of charm in the movie.
Bob Hoskins is great as always and Christina Ricci demonstrated she was up for big things.

Heavily underrated but that usually happens with great movies like this.
I'm a die hard fan of the horror genre but I appreciate good movies like this.

I agree. I'm male, and I've seen this film three times. The third time I was really able to appreciate what great actors the principal cast are. There are so many emotional reactions expressed in such natural and seemingly spontaneous ways. And there are subtleties one might not catch on the first, or even second, viewing.

Even Ricci's character does wonderful, odd little things to occupy herself when she's not interested in what the adults are doing. Just like a little girl her age would do. A very natural actor, even at that age.

And the tension (and love) between Charlotte and her mom is played perfectly. Again, seemingly completely natural and spontaneous.

i completely agree. i love mermaids. cher, winona, and christina made a great team. great chick flick.

I can't really explain why i love this movie so much, but i do. i remember loving it when i was younger, then i watched it again more recently and i loved it more than ever. There are just so many cute performances, Charlotte's innocence and the fact she is so naive is just hilarious, and yeah. i love how all the actors performed in their roles. i was never really a huge Cher fan, but i love her in this too. Basically, i can't find much negative stuff to say, i just love it! i reckon it sure is underrated

I just watched Mermaids for the first time tonight, and I agree that its totally underrated. It taps into a lot of familiar sort of teenage angst but in a very surreally eccentric way. The characters all are so identifiable and even those who don't wander from town to town with their quirky mother can find a little bit of each character inside themselves.

Agree, I think it's one of her best performances. "Mermaids" is such a great "feel-good" movie to me, even know I've seen it many times.
