It's hard to credit that the blackmailer would keep his 'meal ticket' (the damning photographs) still hidden inside the music box when circumstances forced him to hock the item. Take note of how quickly and easily Jessica Lange's character found them virtually within seconds. It would have stood to reason that the pawnborker's staff would have glanced at the box, if not out of curiousity at such a unique item, then to estimate it's possible value.

Common sense would dictate that the photographs would have been removed and safely stashed somehwere else.

I looked at it in a different way. He didn't really need that much money because he was being paid off by Laslo. I thought he might have suspected that Laslo would double cross him, so he pawned the item for safe keeping. True, it would have been easier to put them in a safe deposit box. Also, it looked like there were negatives she put in the envelope to Burke as well as the originals. Maybe they were better hidden down somewhere in the box.

Also, doesn't she hit the music box a different way or reverse it and that makes the photos come out? I didn't think it was she just opened up the box, and they popped out.

So, supposing you are the writer, where do you put them that is interesting, safe and imaginative. Certainly not in a safe, that has been over used. Where ?

I'll stick with the music box and elect to suspend disbelief.

In a movie called "Music Box" I would think the best place to put the pictures and make a dramatic ending would be perhaps an old music box stored in a pawn shop. If Misha ever came looking for the item, he wouldn't know where it was.

I saw this movie years ago and just recently watched it again. I had erroneously remembered it as the music box being in the father's possession at his house. Maybe my subconscious remembered it that way for it to make sense. Where Mishka took the box from the other guy to his own house not knowing what was inside.
