Things That Amuse Me About Fifteen

It was a guilty pleasure. I remember the winter of 1992 catching an all-weekend "Fifteen" marathon on Nickelodeon. It was one of those things that was very...captivating. Deep down, I knew it was pretty terrible...but I still liked it. I think it was the Canadian accents.

Things I Remember...
Everything was so monumental. Ashley cheats on one test and decides to go to private school.

Ashley never really acted...she just squinted and tucked her hair behind her ears a lot. I still thought she was adorable at the time (and Laura Harris still is).

They never really drank their sodas at the Avalon. They just sort of stirred them. I can't remember one kid every actually drinking a beverage or eating their slice of pizza.

And young Billy eventually would grow up to be Van Wilder.

I found it interesting that they used two straws and i think I may have posted this before, but most characters exited by running...ever notice that? =)

when I was in middle school there were no locks on the lockers. the locks were built in.

The drinks they had at the Avalon never had any ice in them. The acting was so terrible it was hilarious. It was worth watching.

reply

how old are you today

reply

I went to a very small school. We had lockers but if you were a paranoid person then you bought your own lock. All through my High School years I never used a lock for my locker.

dear viewer I was the drink server at the avalon and they could have drank the drinks they were mostly warm sodas or juices the show was filmed in burnaby bc
at bctv studios we were all no namers i saw a commercial on tv to go and audition for this show there was about 1500 in total i read for the part of olaf but did not get it and wound up as gerry serving drinks in the avalon

I loved how several times an episode, someone would say someting to tick the other person off, and the other person would go, "What's THAT supposed to mean?!" in a funny canadian accent. :)

reply

Strange, I don't remember a nuance like that.

reply

I remember Ashley would annoy me so much with her hair tucking and eye squinting but at the same time Billy was a hottie. And who would know he'd grow up to become an even hotter Ryan Reynolds? Funny how he was engaged to Alanis Morisette for a while - wasn't she on Nick's other hit 80s TV show, You Can't Do That On Television?

reply

Yep Alanis was on YCDToT, she got slimed...(which contrary to popular opinion was the 1st show on Nick to slime people *not* Double Dare)

Win or lose, leave it all on the floor.

I always thought Ryan Reynolds looked familar to me when I seen him in that Amityville movie! He was that one dude in Fifteen----and omg that show was JACKED!! My sister and I would watch it and just rag on it continuously. We would be cracking up so much especially at the sodas in that one place they hung out in. They never had ice in it and that one chick who always squinted her eyes, messed with her hair, and talked so damn quiet. How about that one chick, the India/Middle Eastern looking one. She was so wierd, and she was always being dramatic about something stupid.. Actually the whole cast was. lol

i was definitely in grade school when the show was on. i just remember that billy always had some issue. didn't he get beat up or something like that. and i thought i was crazy when i thought ryan=billy when he started two guys and a girl. but thanks to imdb i can now shut the door on that mystery.

and that opening was hysterical. so cheesy. even i knew that back then.

billy actually was a bully at some point in the show until his friend Dylan knocked some sense into him. Billy and courtney's parents were separating, billy got to live with his dad and Courtney with her mom. Billy did seem like a harmless wimp on the show and I don't care how buffed up he is now, he still seems to be the same wimp.

reply

Oh, but he's so hot! LOL. I always got a kick out of the way they always "coped" with everything. It was always, "how do I cope?' or "I cant cope with it". Thinking about it now, it wasnt a real good show, but for some reason I liked it. I spilled a glass of water into the tv and was so mad that I missed some of that marathon. Oh, those were the days!!!

reply

those definitely were the days I think I was in the 7th or the 8th grade. That show, welcome freshmen, clarissa explains it all, were popular staples back then. So were you born in 1977?

reply

[deleted]

Yes, How'd you guess? LOL

reply

well from the last 2 numbers and the fact that you were also in junior high when those shows were on back then. The 90s had some good parts to it I guess

It was early 90s fashion but nobody I remember wore stone washed jeans, dylan wore ripped jeans and was into 60s fashion, ashley wore jeans jackets and was cute, Matt wore jeans and shirt nothing out of the ordinary, britany was fashionably trendy. I loved the show. It should have gone on.

reply

I made it to call backs with Jason Angel in San Antonio in like '92. I bit it in the video audition and that was the sad end to my professional acting career. And I could be buds with Ryan Reynolds... Shucky Darns.

reply

what, who are you?

reply

i remember Courtney had bugged out eyes and was sort of a hippie and I liked her way better than ashley. Didn't Courtney used to go out with the rebel guy and then he and Ashley pulled a Kelly and Dylan on the poor hippie chick?

reply

Yep!

I was 10 years old in 1990 and I remember thinking, "please don't let my teenage years be this dramatic!" Lo and behold, that's exactly what happened. LOL!

reply

You got to be kidding? IT was a teenage soap opera with sooo many twists and turns but it did have originality. Too bad the show didn't last.
