The sugar shack

I thought it was funny that in that scene in the Sugar Shack, the rock band (playing Sly and the Family Stones' "Thank You") was portrayed as the boring music. It was evident that an effort was put into making the instruments sound as monotonous and dull as possible. Hilariously enough, 'nilla has his boy "pump up" a fresh jam and it sounds infinitely more bland and monotonous, in the way that most early 90's hip hop does.
What really bothered me about this scene was that it was supposed to reflect the idea that rap is "hot" and the whole rock culture is dead, apparently no longer able to make the generation move. Ice's blow to pop culture for his own self-glorification in this movie is sickening.
The funniest thing is that when he first enters the Sugar Shack, Vanilla Ice is marginilized from the party with the few others who are "too down" to listen to that played-out rock stuff, and in a single frame he is surrounded by only black people! Because he's one of them, got it.
Funny movie. 1/10
