did this used to scare anyone when they were little?

When I first saw this I was afraid of the troll he was pretty freaky looking the only time I laughed was when he smiled at the girl, when he kept turning the kids to wood I was a little afraid, when the troll was finally killed I was relieved, ernest picked him up and kissed him then his head exploded.
Did this used to scare anyone else when they were little?

I'm with this kyle guy. This movie scared the *beep* out of me; more so than any movie I've ever seen. I had seen a few of the Friday the 13th movies, as well as several other horror movies, but nothing compared to this.

I saw it when I was eight and was absolutely terrified by the troll. I had nightmares for weeks.

Remember that scene where he's under the girl's bed and she looks underneath of it only to discover that he's crawled up next to her? Holy *beep* For a long time I had was in a state of consternation over whether or not I should look under my bed before I went to sleep. I didn't want him to be under there, but I also didn't want him next to me when I came back up.

His ability to change his voice was also scary. Actually, at the time, the whole thing was scary. I ended up having to leave the theater a few times to "go to the bathroom."

The funny thing is, with the exceptions of The Shining and The Exorcist, I haven't been genuinely frightened by a movie since. And even those had nowhere near the effect that good ol' Ernest Scared Stupid had.

I am so glad everyone agrees with me on this!

This film scared the *beep* out of me as a kid.

And we all were scared by the same scene it seems - the look under the bed and he's next to her scene.

Here's the ugly *beep* (the troll)...

This movie scared the sh*t out of me every time I watched it, but I loved it anyway. If you think about it, it's a pretty scary movie for being directed toward children. For back then, the troll was pretty graphic, and the way he could change his voice and suddenly appear behind you is scary as hell. Like a few of you have said, I was also terrified of the scene when he was in Elizabeth's bed. When I would go to sleep at night, I was so scared he would be underneath mine. Either that or in the closet. I had these closet doors with slats in them, and the clothes hanging inside would always look like the troll to me in the dark. It's definitely my favorite Ernest movie.

If it ain't Monk, it's bunk.

This is some funny stuff.

For a long time after the movie whenever I would look under my bed I would lay there with my head upside down over the bed until I was absolutely sure the troll couldn't be on the bed. I even one time slept under the bed after looking, because I didn't want to return on the bed to find him there.

haha i remember laying awake at night shaking cause everytime i closed my eyes id think that troll was behind me!

It's good to know that I'm not the only person who was scared by this movie as a kid. "Over here, Kenny. I'm catching up!" Just thinking about that chase scene gives me a shiver.

The good part was that for every time I felt frightened during this movie, Ernest would pull off a funny one-liner or do something stupid and have me laughing again.
