It was said in the original script he was going to kill her and go after Jacob who turned out to be John Doe but since Lisa Wilcox couldn't sign on to the film the redacted this and left out Lisa/Jacob and focused on John Doe/Maggie

shareIt always bugged me that Freddy didn't need Alice or Jacob anymore to get to his victims, but I just rewatched Dream Child and noticed it kind of set this up. At the end of that film, Freddy's mother (Amanda) captures his soul and essentially frees Alice and Jacob of it, although it's hinted that Freddy will eventually escape. When he did, he was no longer bounded by Alice and Jacob's dreams and thus didn't need them anymore.
