Objectively and empirically the worst in the series.
First off, if you like/love this. That is just fine. However, know the difference between your least favorite and the worst.
This has been scientifically proven to be the worst. Let's see...
-This film is a producers mess. No real writers, no real directors. Just producers ruining movies like they tend to do.
-40 minutes into the movie, all Freddy has done is fly a broomstick and driven a bus. Oh and his makeup looks like bubblegum. BTW every other line is a very forced "HAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAAA".
-worst death scenes ever. The power glove, bugs bunny spikes, the SNL ear sketch and... oh is that it? Damn... I swear I remember a scene where Freddy sends a shark to jump out and eat people....
-nonsensical plot. So Freddy can control Springwood within the dream world and everyone there is crazy? ok...how did he not only come back after part 5, but how is he now at the absolute height of his powers even though he needed Alice in the last two films to collect souls?! He even says "great to be back in business" like he doesn't have complete control of the world around him.
-More nonsensical plots. We get WAY too much of Freddy's backstory. He was a dad and a family man (oh wait how did he find time to maintain a suburban household while murdering every kid he could?). Wow Alice Cooper is his dad (ok that part was kinda cool). The 3 dream demons gave him the power to kill in dreams the moment he was engulfed in flames (damn that takes away the entire mystery of Freddy with a cartoonish explanation).
-And how is Freddy finally defeated? IN 3D! With ninja stars, some metal poles, his glove and a stick of dynamite that only blows him up and leaves the room undamaged.
This movie is just absolutely over the top and ludicrous. It has some likable characters, good actors and some interesting ideas. But holy crap did they ruin Freddy!!!! Every single scene with him in it is so embarrassing. Robert Englund was just so used to whoring out Freddy for promo videos and rap albums that he didn't realized how bad this would be.
I blame Rachel Talalay and Bob Shaye for ditching Peter Jacksons AMAZING script in favor of this pg-13 elm street. If I ever meet them I am going to ask if they will sign my vhs with "I'm sorry".
