Too Over the Top...

I'm watching it right now and I remember how disappointed I was the first time I saw it. I think the filmmakers purposely made this one the worst of the lot so that Freddy would be killed DEAD and audiences wouldnt want him back.

Thank goodness Wes Craven's New Nightmare was a decent rebound from this.

It was too OTT, but I doubt that they made it that way to turn people off to him for good. I think they made it that way because they figured with it being the 'end,' that they could get away with it...and because that would be the money maker. They tried a more serious story and tone for part five that didn't work and became the lowest grosser of the series [at that point]. I think with this movie they wanted to ensure that commercial audiences would flock to it so that it would go out with a bang, even if they had to exaggerate things to the hilt.

Thing is, watching these movies again(Chiller Channel had them on all week) it seems like The Dream Child was rushed because of the success of The Dream Master. In the case of Freddy's Dead, the whole thing dosent even feel like it belongs in the series of films. Its really an odd entry, almost as if the other ones followed a somewhat linear storyline and this was more or less the "fake" sequel just made for the fun of it and to get rid of Kruger for good.
