Works well as a sequel to the Nightmare on Elm Street Nintendo game

in the Nightmare on Elm Street Nintendo game you play as John Doe from "Freddys Dead" and the last few remaining Springwood kids in there effort to collect all of Freddy's bones and burn them in the furnace but three of them get a game over in the high school basment\boiler room and only John Doe survives. Afterwards the John Doe attempts to leave Springwood via airplane and "Freddys Dead" is what ensues. it makes sense if you. The Springwood in the NES game is clearly the same one depicted "Freddys Dead". Add on top the Nintendo references in the movie and the end screen of the game with the words "Freddy is Dead"
