Insensitivity?

This is on right now, on the TV station which spent a big chunk of yesterday televising the 10th Anniversary of Diana's death etc... insensitive or what?

But before Diana's death, the opening scenes with the dozens of guncarriages carrying the royal coffins with the flag of the realm and the union flag draped across them etc wouldnt have bothered me, but now it seems kind of horrific.

Weird eh?

reply

Oh come on... It's a movie.

People really need to just lighten up and take a comedy for a comedy.

To have shown it in 1997 might have been insensitive, to show it ten years later demonstrates one of the strengths of our (unwritten) constitution - that the Monarchy is greater than any one person, that life goes on regardless. I say 'good show' to whichever channel did show the movie.

Give me a break! This film was released into the cinema in 1991 when Princess Di was still alive! You are making great leaps and assumptions which amount to absolutely, nothing!

What, just for once in your life can't you be serious?

reply

No, Im saying that showing it on TV the day after Diana's 10-year-death memorial on the same channel was a bit shocking.

never mind.

I don't mean to be rude because I am afraid I already have been but never mind was the best statement you've made thus far.

I am sure you had a point but King Ralph was a comedy made long before Di passed away and I am sure there wasn't any offense implied by when it was aired and such.

Let me just clear this up before I leave.

On the TV channel this aired on, when I wrote the post, the previous day had been Diana's 10th anniversary of her death, and the channel showed stuff of her all day, including the funeral with the flag draped coffin etc, yet the same channel showed this movie the next day, and it was slightly odd to do so, as the opening scenes have some strong parallels of the Diana stuff they were showing the day before.

reply

You have taken this whole thing way too far!

Stop! This is a message board about the movie King Ralph, not about Princess Di!

reply

No one said its about Princess Di, stop being so melodramatic, I simply was referring to the time/channel that it was aired and the content of the opening scenes being a bit of a reflection of the Diana memorial.

Whole thing is moot point, because it's all in point of view. Another example being, say in the movie Independence Day they had shown the World Trade Center among the buildings destroyed in the initial strike (which it doesn't, but pretend it did) and a TV station decided to air it in Sept. of 2011, people would be complaining over that too.
It's human nature to nit-pick over anything to have something to complain about and prove one's self-righteousness.
