WHy is this rated r?

Why?

Get busy living or get busy dying.

reply

because there was a nude part with celia and language i guess

reply

It's not a "hard R" but there is female nudity and suggestions of sexuality. Also three or four F words.

reply

"All The President's Men" had three or four F words and it was rated PG - after appeal. (They originally tried to slap it with an R.) I don't think there's any more sexual suggestiveness than your average PG-13 movies nowadays. Anyway, the MPAA doesn't work like that. They rate differently based on subject, who made a film, where it came from, its budget, etc.

Foreign independent movies about gays are much more likely to be slapped with R (or NC-17) than big budget studio pictures about heterosexuals.

reply

Probably because it's an independent film from Australia. The MPAA tends to come down harder on foreign films and independent films than they do, say, Disney or Warner Bros. See "This Film Is Not Yet Rated" for more on how American ratings work. I don't think the film should have had more than PG-13. Look at the trashy movies that get PG-13 nowadays. There's a brief shot of breast, Celia reaching in Martin's pants, but no real sexual activity. He pushes her away. There are a few F-bombs, but no more than some PG and PG-13 movies.

The MPAA is run by a bunch of lying hypocrites. The ratings make no sense at all, unless you look beyond content. They discriminate in many under-handed ways.

****SPOILER****

There was some relatively graphic splayed thrusting between Andy and Celia, I do believe.

Proud of what the Republicans have done? If not, vote Democratic this November!

Andy? and Celia? If it's Andy and Andy is (Russell Crowe) then, as perverted as this sounds, I must see this movie. By the way, I love your post:

"There was some relatively graphic splayed thrusting between Andy and Celia, I do believe."

Very nice way of putting it. :D

well I don't get MPAA rating system.

Can you believe that "Stand by Me" was rated "R"??? while "Live Free or Die Hard" got a PG-13 rating???

reply

There's a shot of russell crowe's backside, which I would rather not have seen. I don't know about any faults the MPAA may have, but this is an R movie.

reply

you can see russell crowe's butt
