what did splinter say he was doing on the roof?

There is a scene early in the movie where all the turtles are in April's apartment and someone ask "What is splinter doing on the roof?" or something along those lines and splinter responds with something, what was it that he said?

The only difference between religion and superstition is the spelling.

I love the little pause in there, I didn't get it as a kid but recently rematching it I heard that and laughed my ass off, its so unexpected, the line just comes out of nowhere.
