No it wasn't. I was 21 when it came out on cable and it was always Deadlock. They even spun of a weekly tv show about it and that's when they changed the name.

When I first saw it on HBO in the early 90's it was called Deadlock, and I like that title better. When I heard it called Wedlock for the the first time, I didn't even know the meaning of that word. While it does make sense, I feel Deadlock is a better title, more compelling.

Just FYI, it was called Deadlock when I saw it too.

I'm not the only one that tought this movie was great, the movie makers from saw 3 clearly watched this movie because they also use an explosive collar which explodes if the other one dies or if you get too far apart.

I saw this movie when I was 9 years old and even owned a poster, it was called Wedlock and that's what it said on the poster over here in Eastern Europe

reply

Your partially correct in was released in Europe and other countries as Wedlock, I woned a chain of Video stores in the 90's when the film was released in the USA, and it was DEADLOCK....I have no idea why they released it under 2 names...

reply

i own the vhs and it says deadlock on it......why change the title?

reply

Whats the matter with all? The movie is called WEDLOCK. You have a WEDLOCK partner If your coller explodes, your WEDLOCK partners coller explodes also. Its explained in the film, just before RH goes into prison. Why the debate?

They had explosive collars in the movie The Running Man (1987), which preceded this movie by 4 years at least (not to mention, the movie was based on a Stephen King short story).

When this was on HBO all the time back in the 90s it was always "Deadlock" The first time I ever heard it called "Wedlock" was about 3 minutes ago.

reply

Christ, ManThing, what does that have to do with anything?

reply

Well.....Its the topic of this thread.

reply

I know this is an old topic and no one probably comes here anymore.

But originally when it was first aired in the US, it was advertised and released as Deadlock. It was later changed for whatever reason, before it ever left the country, to Wedlock. There are many places still in the US that have it labeled and still sell it as Deadlock.

The name change probably came because of the thousand other Deadlock movies made in the states.

It's like how the movie "Fly Away Home" was originally advertised as "Father Goose" and then "Flying Wild" and finally as "Fly Away Home".

Deadlock or Wedlock was never advertised over seas as Deadlock, and the name change happened pretty quickly after the movie was released on VHS in the US, so most people only remember it as being Wedlock.

I'm here as well RuruShii. I've never seen this movie but the name "Wedlock" makes more sense, even though it does sound like the title for a Rom Com.

I always remember it being called Deadlock too. In fact when I went to search for it recently, I searched "deadlock" and couldnt find it. Had to search the actors name and look for it.

It was called Deadlock in North America, but it was always Wedlock everywhere else, the lovely marketing folks in the USA always like to treat their fellow Americans as if they have the IQ of a sandwich and no doubt figured that a clever name like Wedlock would not bring in as many yokels as the actiony, 'splodey name DEADLOCK!

They really are a bunch of cretins and you other Americans should hunt them down and tell them to stop f(_)cking with your film titles.

Unfortunately there are a lot of people in this country who come in below the sandwich. Just take a look at our elected government.. And unfortunately those are the same people who can't get enough Big Brother, The Bachelor, Kim Kardashian, and Honey Boo Boo. Large numbers of stupid people are the reason those shows won't go away.

And for the record, I also remember this movie as Deadlock when it was on HBO.
