The best cartoon ever.

Yes it is.

No argument here.

Totes!

This was one of three pleasures for after school viewing years ago! The second being a tall glass of chocolate milk and the third being a big bag of Costco popcorn!

Good times were had in the early 90's.

reply

Hell yes. One of the best shows ever period.

reply

I agree, I could watch it all day, or Dark Night. Seriously, it is one of the best series I've viewed, live or animated. Just wonderful storytelling, beautiful artwork, and I feel it was ahead of its time.

reply

Still feel this animated series provided the fans with the best interpretation of The Joker.

Was definitely the most fun. It was filled with really great characters and was the birth of Harley Quinn. What more could fans have asked for?

reply

I think all the villains are very well-developed ( I feel even Alfred, with his dry humor, is fleshed out), but my favorite (and saddest) is Harvey Dent, AKA Two-Face. What a tragic figure.

reply

The Harvey Dent and Victor Fries episodes are very memorable.

Probably some of the best episodes of the series.

reply

Oh yeah, the Victor Fries episode is heartbreaking as well (it may have been called 'Heart of Ice' , but Victor Fries cared very much about his Nora; doesn't sound so cold to me. Poor guy).

reply

Think it's obvious Fries and Dent are the most obvious villains that Batman has the most sympathy for in the series.

Both of them are definitely victims of circumstance.

Evil criminals creating even more cunning and shrewd criminals.

reply

Things aren't obvious to those who don't pay attention; I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but Clayface had his issues too (an actor losing his face, forced to work for Roland Daggett, using that awful cream, then having a ton shoved down his throat). I just feel this series had amazing characterization, and was really deep, especially early on.

reply

Every villain (or most) in BTAS seemed to be born out of some filthy crook screwing them over.

You mentioned clayface but also Edward Nygma. He was screwed over by Mockridge who then sold his business to Bruce Wayne of all people.

He created the riddle of the minotaur and was fired by the crooked businessman who then went on to do business with the great hero of the show.

And Bruce Wayne's justification for a criminal pocketing millions seems to be, oh he won't be sleeping well tonight.

reply

Oh yeah, that's true about Edward Eygma; hey, what about Temple Fugate, The Clock King? Okay, He was probably hanging by a thread anyway, but going to that park caused him to be late, then he completely snapped.
See, that's what I mean, the show was so smart; it normally had real life issues, and for an animated series, I just continue to be amazed.
Okay, I cannot defend Mad Hatter; he was out of line, yet this show humanized him (I suppose we all have our obsessions, but he knew better).

reply

There are only a few villains you can't feel sympathy for though.

Scarecrow was the one I remember. Trying to turn over Gotham with a fear toxin. Even prior to assuming his criminal identity, he was still trying to induce fear in patients while he was a Dr.

Thinking about it now though. It seems it could've been easy for Dick Grayson to become a villain due to his tragedy, had he been older and more cynical and had Bruce Wayne not taken such an involvement due to the similarities with his own past.

Suppose like everything, it's all about timing.

reply

One of the best, definitely.

reply

I think it is without question the best on screen depiction of Batman.

reply

Yeah, i like the first Tim Burton film and the Christopher Nolan films (especially "The Dark Knight"), but I'd take this series any day.

reply

I know a lot of people enjoy the Nolan Batman films, I watched the first one, I have seen a lot of the second film and I have not watched the third. I believe the films are well made, but it never felt like Batman to me.

reply

Yeah, like James Rolfe from Cinemassacre said, the Nolan films seem to be crime dramas that happen to include Batman, but I think they are well made. Give me this show though:-)
