Yeah, it was real interesting review.

It came out when I was a kid (say nine years old) so I liked it for what it was...an Anti-Disney hip movie, but watching it now as an adult, I had mostly negative feelings of that film because it doesn't know what it wants to be...a straight-up animated feature for adults or a highly entertaining family film.

This film came out during the time when "The Simpsons" and "Beavis and Butt-Head" were the biggest risk-takers and the most controverisal cartoons in memory. The problem with that though is that both shows had great writing, better animation, talented voice actors, and not to mention...both shows are animated classics while the film became very outdated with its hood references.

I have to agree with the Critic, while the film isn't entirely terrible, it's entirely medicore.

Good review by the Nostalgia Critic.

Oh...and the tagline from the film "It's animation" is one of the most redudant slogans of all-time.

D'oh! Missed first reply by like, 3 seconds!

Y'notice how the animation is like Adventures Of Sonic? It's creatively wacky, but executed in a somewhat lazy manner. Have to agree with the Critic though, certainly waaayyy better than Pirates 3.

I kinda feel bad for this Robin Harris guy, though. He seemed like a promising comic, but I guess signing onto this wasn't the best method for publicity. Thanks, NC!

Now I have three sequels. Ho ho ho.

Robin Harris died before this movie was made so they had a voice actor to imitate him.

I was 5 years old when this movie came out. My mom, one of those that buys into the it's-animated-so-it's-for-kids thing even to this day, rented it for my sister (4 at the time) and myself. I remembered next to nothing of it, except the guy at the beginning going "Bebe's kids" over and over again, and the baby who talked (which I only remembered because he was the lizard in Ferngully).

I have to say...I agreed with NC's review 100%. I remember being utterly confused by just what this movie was trying to be. To this day...still no idea lol

I remember when the NC did the video game review, now he's reviewing this horrible movie. I've never seen Bébé's Kids, nor have I seen any stand up comedies of Robin Harris, but the video game review pretty much summed up how horrible this movie would be.

It's your typical early 90's cartoon movie; no real plot whatsoever but full of supposed entertainment. Even as a kid, I don't think I'd enjoy watching this film (even with the rapping, rebellion and your momma jokes).

The only bad part of this review was the Tone Loc bit. It was unnecessarily dragged out way too far (even though they did GET ON WITH IT), the NC brought it back AGAIN at the end! I think I'll go watch his video game review now.

Bebe's Kids is NOT a bad film. It's mediocre, however. It has it's pros and cons jsut like any other film. I wouldn't say it's a great movie, but it's OK. One thing I did really like about it is the animation style, it seems so relaxing, lazy, and cool.

I find it interesting how he's saying that Princess and the Frog is the animated movie following this to feature an African American cast the right way and yet he doesn't mention that the animator of Dr. Facilier was the director.

Just saw the review---it was almost funnier than the movie to some extent. I would have to say that, since the reviewer was a white dude, he obviously was not familiar with some of the African-American cultural nuances of the movie (like Robin and the ex-wife "playing the dozens" in the bathroom (i.e.,insulting the hell out of each other with "yo mama" jokes) and the amount of rap in the film was clearly inspired by the fierce (and fun to hear) pro-black pride rap coming out at the time (Public Enemy,Boogie Down Productions, Poor Righteous Teachers,3rd Bass, Queen Latifah, Monie Love, Shazzy--just to name a few examples.) Even though he was funny as hell, the reviewer should have done a little research before seeing the movie and just deciding that it wasn't good enough simply because he didn't understand certain things about it.

I admit when the film first came out, I didn't like it that much either---I only took my little sister (then 7 years old) to see it because I just wanted her to see a cartoon movie about black people for a change. Now seeing it again for the first time in years, I can appreciate it a little better--the interactions bwt the characters and how they talk are pretty much exactly how REAL black folks talk (some black folks, anyway.) Definitely not your typical animated kiddie film, which probably hurt it at the box office, too.

Interesting thoughts.

Yo Momma!

My Momma?

Yeah, your whole family!

That's the only part of Bebe's Kids I remember. Not very good. But yo momma jokes are usually good for a laugh. The game sure looked terrible.
