It's been so long since I've seen the movie and maybe my perspective might change when I re watch but I don't really like how she repeatedly risked her life.
Yes it was risky because Cabrini Green is a dangerous crime ridden area and being that she's a white woman she is "trespassing" (Im dont mean it in a racial sense) but Helen is an ambitious woman who set out to prove that the Candyman isnt real.
I was on the film and we did shoot the exterior scenes in Chicago, in Cabrini Green. Two of the sound guys walked off the film when in their sound van two bullets came through the roof closely hitting them.
I on the other hand had to dress locals as gang members. I had to be sure none of the colors i used were actually the colors of local gangs. They changed at the end of my trailer to be private. Twice I heard thud ,what could only have been the sound of a firearm hitting the floor of the trailer.What a great shoot it was, Pardon the pun.
